First time authors and friends Karl Wayne Gruber and John Francis Carroll developed the concept of the book and characters in 1995 one night after writing a birthday poem for a friend's child. They wanted to convey observations of everyday things and nature through the eyes and imagination of two insect friends Karl Bugg and Johnny Grasshopper, who love to play guessing games through poetic riddles.
